Winter Flexible LNG Supply Rise Enough to Meet Demand Growth: BNEF

LNG

Total flexible LNG supply above destination-specific contract levels is set to rise 21% to 51.5m metric tons this winter due to higher output from Freeport LNG in the US according to BNEF. Some added flexible supply volumes will come from the Pacific Basin and Middle East and Africa.

  • The increase should be enough to meet forecast demand growth but with risks from a cold winter, greater demand in mainland China and unplanned supply outages.
  • Demand growth is expected from Mainland China and South and Southeast Asia with flexible supply needs up 39% from last year, needing an extra 2.2m tons as demand growth outpaces contract-level expansion.
  • Europe's flexible supply demand is expected to rise by 3.5m metric tons from last winter amid contract expiries.
