Won Holds Monday's Gain

The won slightly stronger in Asia-Pac trade on Tuesday, USD/KRW down 0.75 at 112.05 having held most of the opening decline yesterday.

  • Data earlier showed the BoP currenct account balance narrowed to $1.909bn from $7.816bn, goods balance narrowed to $4.559bn from $7.92bn. Following the release the BoK said higher oil prices increased the price of imports.
  • On the coronavirus front there were 454 new cases in the past 24 hours, in the 400's for the second straight day with authorities citing a pick up in the vaccination campaign. A total of 8.45 million people, including 855,642 the previous day, have received their first shots of COVID-19 vaccines, accounting for 16.5% of the country's population, since the country started its vaccination program on Feb. 26.
  • There could be some comments from Vice Foreign Miniseter Choi today, Choi will be in Washington from June 8-10 for talks with US Deputy Sec of State Sherman.
