WTI Midland Inclusion Increasing Dated Brent Benchmark Volumes

OIL

The inclusion of US WTI Midland crude into the North Seas cargoes for the Dated Brent Benchmark has increased volume by approximately 7.7mbbls for the first half of June according to Bloomberg last week. The volume is the same as the combined volume from the five North Seas grades.

  • The inclusion should also improve the depth of the market with Koch Supply and Trading already seen returning after limited participation in recent years.
  • A supertanker carrying US crude conducted an unusual ship to ship transfer off the Scottish Coast onto a smaller Aframax vessel on Friday. The transfer is the first at this site since Jan 2019. The Platts Dated Brent assessment only includes cargoes on board Aframax tankers, even if transferred from a bigger vessel.
