Yamal Sent First LNG Cargo via Northern Sea Route Early June

Novatek’s Yamal LNG in Siberia launched its first cargo to Asia via the Northern Sea Route this year June 5 according to Kpler.

  • It sent the cargo earlier than the first cargo last year which left June 16.
  • The Fedor Litke LNG tanker, carrying cargo from Sabetta, is currently in the East Siberian Sea. Its destination is unknown.
  • The route to Asia via the Suez Canal takes about 30 days, while the NSR route takes about 15 days.
  • Yamal concluded its previous Northern Sea Route shipping season with the Boris Vilkitsky tanker on Dec. 8.
  • Most NSR shipments went to China, with some to Taiwan and Indonesia.
