Yellen: I Haven't Seen China Undermining Sanctions On Russia So Far

Speaking on CNBC, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen states that 'I have not seen China undermining the impact of Western sanctions [on Russia] so far', but that the West must be 'cautious' as to the potential impact of Chinese-Russian economic and political relations.

  • Adds that China continuing to buy coal and oil from Russia is not a violation of Western sanctions.
  • Says that US 'would want to see China actively working to resolve the Russia-Ukraine situation'.
  • On EU energy strategy vis-a-vis Russia: "We want to make clear it's really up to Europe to decide. We are fully supportive of Europe's plan to reduce its dependence on Russia for energy supply over time".
