MNI BRIEF: Exit Polls Give Macron Win In French Vote

(MNI) London

Emanuel Macron has recoded a fairly comfortable win over challenger Marine Le Pen according to exit polls by French TV, picking up a projected 58.2% of the vote against 41.8%.

The margin of victory was lower than that seen in the 2017 run-off between the same two candidates, but Macron became the first president re-elected in 2 decades.

A Macron win was largely factored in by financial markets ahead of the vote, so should have little impact. However, a clear win for the pr-European incumbent is certainly one less concern for the European Central Bank.
