US Slams Osman Kavala Life Sentence, Urges Turkey to Respect ECHR Rulings

  • The U.S. slammed Turkey for sentencing a prominent businessman and philanthropist Osman Kavala to life in prison for allegedly attempting to topple the government following yesterday’s court ruling.
    • US said it was “deeply troubled and disappointed” by the court’s decision to convict Kavala and again called for his release in line with European Court of Human Rights rulings. “We urge the government to cease politically motivated prosecutions and to respect the rights and freedoms of all Turkish citizens.” - bbg
