Florida Congressional Map Could Lead To Big GOP Midterm Swing
US
The UVA Center for Politics has released a report on the new Florida Congressional district map outlining a significant potential advantage for the Republican Party at November's midterms.
- Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) vetoed maps produced by the GOP legislature earlier this month and proposed an alternative district map that was approved in a special session last week.
- With the new DeSantis map in place Republicans are likely to win 20 out of 28 seats. A significant improvement over the current 16-11 split.
- According to the UVA report the map hasn't produced any new competitive seats.
- Opponents of the Congressional map have filed for an injunction to block the map on the grounds of racial gerrymandering but if the legal challenge fails then Florida is likely to deliver a notable swing to the GOP in November.
