2023 Czech Budget Passes on First Look

CZECH REPUBLIC: During budget debates in the lower house of parliament yesterday, the government reaffirmed a pledge to continue to trim the budget deficit next year, with the revenue raised by the windfall tax (slated to kick in for 2023’s profits) helped cover the increase in state aid for individuals and businesses.

  • The 2023 draft budget was approved on a preliminary reading, and eyes a deficit ceiling dropping to CZK 295bln next year from 2022’s CZK 375bln.
HUNGARY: The September unemployment rate rose to 3.8% vs. Exp. 3.7%, the highest unemployment rate since the start of the year.
