2024: Republicans Favoured To Take Control Of Senate

US

The UVA Center for Politics has published a report suggesting that the Republican party remains on track to retake control of the Senate at the 2024 general election.

  • According to UVA, the GOP is likely to pickup enough seats to secure a split chamber even before the three 'tossups' are taken into account due to the highly favourable nature of the 2024 Senate map.
  • UVA: "So far, the 2024 Republican Senate field features multiple candidates who are wealthy businessmen, 2022 retreads, or both. Overall, the GOP appears well-positioned in West Virginia, their top target. If they flip that state and hold everything they currently have, they just need one more seat to get to 51, an outright majority no matter what happens in the presidential race."
  • Beyond West Virginia, the GOP has identified Ohio and Montano as the two most likely pickup opportunities. Candidate quality is expected to be a significant factor in determining the outcome of these races.
