MEXICO: A couple of Mexico-centric headlines doing the rounds over the last 30
minutes or so:
- The Hill wrote "President Trump is planning to declare a new national
emergency in order to implement sweeping tariffs on Mexico over the flow of
Central American migrants to the U.S., according to a draft document of the
declaration reviewed by The Hill. According to the document, the new emergency
is necessary due to "the failure of the Government of Mexico to take effective
action to reduce the mass migration of aliens illegally crossing into the United
States through Mexico."
- Elsewhere, Pemex was downgraded to Junk status at Fitch, with a negative
outlook in place.
- This comes after The White House said that it still intends to impose tariffs
on Mexican imports on Monday, following reports that it was considering pushing
back its decision. U.S. VP Pence noted that Mexican officials offered to do more
re: immigration and that he is encouraged by the progress made in the last two
days.
