A$ Loses Post Yuan Fix Gains, RBA’s Bullock Speaks Later

AUDUSD rose strongly to 0.6570 when the yuan was fixed at its strongest since June, but has now more than unwound those gains and is almost unchanged on the session at 0.6552. It fell to a low of 0.6550. The USD is also flat as trading thins ahead of the US holiday.

  • Aussie’s major crosses are little changed today with AUDJPY down 0.1% to 97.20 and AUDNZD is slightly lower at 1.0835. AUDEUR and AUDGBP are both down marginally at 0.6004 and 0.5227 respectively.
  • Equity markets are mixed with the Nikkeiup 0.5% but the ASX down 0.1% and CSI 300 -0.4%. S&P e-mini is down slightly. Oil prices are moving in narrow ranges with Brent down slightly at $82.36/bbl. Copper is 0.4% lower and iron ore is steady trading just below $134/t.
  • Tonight at 1935 AEDT RBA Governor Bullock speaks on “A monetary policy fit for the future” at the ABE dinner. The RBA website says that the talk will include the “recent monetary policy decision and progress on the implementation of recommendations of the Review of the Bank”.   • Later US jobless claims, October preliminary durable goods orders and final November Michigan consumer sentiment are released. Tomorrow Australia’s Judo Bank preliminary November PMIs print.
