A Mixed Bag

EQUITIES

After some initial chop e-minis settled just shy of best levels and the major regional equity indices edged lower in Asia-Pac trade, after questions re: the breadth of the most recent leg of the U.S. equity market rally (rightly or wrongly) got even more airtime after the Tesla and Apple stock splits.

  • Month-end flows made for a choppy end to the Wall St. session.
  • Stronger than expected Caixin PMI data out of China likely provided at least some cushion, although inference from the PMIs is particularly challenging at present, given the way they are compiled.
  • Some stock specifics combined with increased worry re: Sino-Aussie tensions, resulting in underperformance for the ASX 200.
  • Nikkei 225 unch., Hang Seng -0.2%, CSI 300 -0.2%, ASX 200 -1.7%.
  • S&P 500 futures +5, DJIA futures +47, NASDAQ 100 futures +51.
