ABS Begins Publishing Monthly Earnings Data

The ABS has just published its first monthly employee earnings indicator using Single Touch Payroll (STP) data. It is a measure of monthly total wages & salaries paid reflecting wage rates including penalty rates, bonuses/commissions/overtime, employment and hours worked. It is not a measure of underlying wage inflation. It rose 9.7% y/y in April driven by Queensland and WA. Q1 total compensation of employees rose 10.8% y/y. The ABS hasn’t published the time series or the date of the next release yet.
