AK Party Officials Mull Over Bringing Election Date Forward

  • Hurriyet report that AK Party officials are said to have discussed bringing forward the election date. The scheduled date of June 18 is seen being moved forward, with officials mulling over April 30 or May 14 as possible dates.
  • In its assessment of inflation in December, the central bank said that the biggest contributor to the slowdown in inflation were basic goods and food with significant base effects. Car prices declined as special consumption tax brackets were raised, while producer prices fell due to energy prices and a steady FX rate.
  • Speaking this morning, Treasury and Finance Minister Nebati announced an affordable housing project for the middle-income, with monthly mortgage rates starting at 0.69%, Bloomberg report. Contractors will be offered TRY 25b ($1.3b) in government-backed loans to build housing.
