MIDEAST

Saudi outlet Al Hadath reporting that 'Hezbollah tried to target the Israeli gas platform “Karish” with drones'. Reporting would seem to suggest that the attempt to target the platform failed, but the attempted attack in of itself further highlights the risk to the hydrocarbon sector posed by the heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

  • Ali Hashem at Al Jazeera posts on X: "Hezbollah announces the targeting of the northern region command headquarters of the Israeli army in the city of Safed (13 kilometres from the border) with a number of explosives laden drones. The attack was in retaliation to Israel’s killing of Saleh Arouri and Wissam Tawil. This is the deepest Hezbollah has targeted since Oct. 8th, things are sliding down towards more escalation. The number of alarms in Israel from rockets launched from the north are growing on daily basis." Al Arabiya carries the story.
  • The attempted attack on Karish is not the first time that the platform in the Med has supposedly been targeted. In Dec 2023, Islamic Resistance in Iraq - a coalition of Shi'ite militia's backed by Iran - claimed to have struck 'a vital target', speculated as the Karish platform.
