Ambs. Approve Human Rights Sanctions, Including On Chinese Individuals

At Coreper II meeting, member state ambassadors to the EU approve the imposition of sanctions on those viewed by the bloc to have committed or facilitated human rights abuses.

  • This includes 4 individuals and one corporate entity from China.
  • Swift reply from the Chinese mission to the EU, with Ambassador Zhang Ming quoted as saying "Sanctions are confrontational. We want dialogue, not confrontation. We ask the EU side to think twice. If some insist on confrontation, we will not back down, as we have no options other than fulfilling our responsibilities to the people."
