American Innovation Act Begins Conference: PCAST Meeting Today

The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) will meet today at 14:00 ET 19:00 BST to discuss 'Challenges and Opportunities for US Leadership in Semiconductors.'

  • PCAST Speakers: Pat Gelsinger (Intel), Priyanka Raina (Stanford University), Rodrigo Liang (SambaNova), Aart DeGeus (Synopsys), and John Neuffer (Semiconductor Industry Association).
  • Gelsinger told CNBC last month that he expects the semiconductor shortage to run until 2024 'because the shortages have now hit equipment and some of those factory ramps will be more challenged.'
  • The Congressional conference on the American Innovation Act which seeks to boost the domestic semiconductor industry will begin today. It is likely to be a lengthy process, with significant divergence between the Senate and House versions of the bill.
  • Business Roundtable CEO Joshua Bolten issued this statement ahead of the day's events: 'At a time of rising geopolitical risk and increasing economic competition from abroad, Business Roundtable urges the Senate and House Conference Committee to swiftly reach agreement on bipartisan legislation that would boost U.S. semiconductor manufacturing and strengthen domestic research and development.'
