AMLO Skips Summit of The Americas

  • The week-long Summit of the Americas commences in Los Angeles today amid criticism that the Biden administration has fumbled an opportunity to reassert US influence in Latin America.
  • Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard will attend the Summit of the Americas after president AMLO announced he will not attend due to the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela. Economy Minister Tatiana Clouthier will also be traveling to summit.
    • On the agenda: post-pandemic recovery, regional economic integration, climate change mitigation, and immigration policies.
  • US Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday announced another $1.9 billion in private-sector funding to boost jobs in hopes of reducing migration from Central America, at a Latin America summit in Los Angeles snubbed by the leaders of Mexico and other affected countries. (AFP)
