CZECHIA: ANO Remains Election Front-Runner, Fitch Affirms Czechia's Rating

CZECHIA
  • The latest STEM/CNN Prima News opinion poll showed that ex-PM Andrej Babis's ANO cemented its position as a front-runner ahead of this year's parliamentary election, boasting a support rate of 34.1%. The Spolu coalition, which includes PM Petr Fiala's ODS, took second place with 19%, while STAN had 11.1%. This would translate into 86 seats for ANO and 70 seats for the current ruling coalition in the 200-seat Chamber of Deputies.
  • Fitch affirmed Czechia's credit rating at AA- with a stable outlook, which was "supported by a record of credible macroeconomic and monetary policies, a robust institutional framework underpinned by EU membership, and strengthening external balance sheet." The agency said that they "expect the cautious easing [of monetary policy by the CNB] to continue and forecast the key rate at 3.25% by end-2025" versus 3.75% at present.
  • President Petr Pavel said that Czechia delivered 1.6 million rounds of artillery ammunition to Ukraine, adding that partners provided enough resources to continue supplying Kyiv at least until April.
