OIL: Another Tanker Carrying Russian Crude To Syria

Second tanker carrying Russian crude to Syria, Reuters reports. 

  • “Aquatica” has 100k tons of Russian Arctic oil onboard and is set to offload in Baniyas soon, Reuters reports citing local news.
  • The vessel arrived March 20 but is yet to unload.
  • This follows earlier reports from Enab Baladi citing TankerTrackers that the “Sabina” tanker was carrying 1m bbls of Russian oil to Syria. It is scheduled to arrive April 3. 
  • Both vessels are subject to US sanctions.
  • Syria is struggling to find a replacement for Iranian oil at its refineries, Reuters reports.
  • Various Russian diesel cargos have been transported to Syria in recent weeks also.
