UK: Anti-no deal Brexit rebels on course to pass Bill to force gov't to ask for
Art. 50 extension.
- Even before loss of working majority [see 15:39], odds were against gov't
avoiding loss in SO24 debate this evening.
- Should vote pass, tomorrow will be used to attempt to pass Bill to seek Art.
50 extension. It is reasonable to assume that if SO24 vote passes tonight, the
Bill will pass tomorrow.
- Major event will be attempts by gov't to call a snap election.
- If 2/3 support gov't, snap election called. If not, gov't forced to ask for
Art. 50 extension unless deal agreed.
- 2019 election prospects rising sharply. Betting markets indicate 84%
probability of GE in 2019, up from 66% on Sep 1 and 41% on day before Johnson
taking office on July 24.
