Anwar Reshuffles Cabinet, Appoints Ex-Pension Fund Chief As Finance Minister II

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revamped the line-up of his Cabinet a year into its term, changing six porftolios and appointing five new ministers, increasing the total number of ministers to 31 from 28. The full line-up of the reshuffled Cabinet can be viewed here.

  • The leader argued that changing circumstances and the assessment of the Cabinet's past performance motivated the decision to restructure the administration. However, he also stressed that there will be no further changes to the line-up of his Cabinet for the following four years until the next general elections, should it perform well.
  • The Prime Minister tapped Amir Hamzah Azizan, a businessman and technocrat, to become Finance Minister II, supporting Anwar in his work as nominal Finance Minister. In addition, the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry was split into two, as was the Communications and Digital Ministry.
