APIKUR Calls on US to Restart Kurdish Oil Exports

OIL

The Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan, APIKUR, has requested US Congressional action to help persuading the Iraqi federal government to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan region, it said in a letter to the US Congress.

  • The association is calling on the US due to significant US and international investment in region, totalling over $10bn.
  • “APIKUR notes that meetings were held in Baghdad on January 7-9, 2024, between representatives of the GoI, the KRG, and International Oil Companies — including representatives of several APIKUR member companies. But, thus far, there has been no concrete progress towards that end presented to the members of APIKUR”, the letter said.
  • S&P Commodity Insights reported that the KRG and the Iraqi federal authorities are currently discussing a deal to reimburse the KRG with a fixed amount selling price for the region’s oil production of around $20.60/bbl.
