US DATA
US DATA: April CPI Preview - 08:30 EDT/13:30 BST
---------------------------------------------------------------
- April CPI is expected to rise by 0.4% based on both the Bloomberg consensus
and an MNI survey of analysts. This follows a similar 0.4% gain in March.
- Core CPI (ex. food and energy) is expected to rise by 0.2% by both the BBG and
MNI surveys.
- MNI analysis shows a tendency to overestimate April CPI, but that a correct
estimate is just as likely. Missed tend to be very small, so an large surprise
is unlikely.
- Another gain in energy prices, particularly gasoline, is expected to lead the
headline increase, while a rebound in apparel prices after a large March decline
should add to the core reading.
