- Retail sales are expected to rise by 0.2% based on both the Bloomberg
consensus MNI survey of analysts, with a decline in vehicle sales the key
factor. This follows a sharp 1.6% rebound in March.
- Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales are forecast to rise buy 0.7% by both
BBG and MNI after a 1.2% gain in March.
- Gasoline prices rose further in the month, which should be the primary driver
of the ex. motor vehicle gain.
- Based on MNI forecast history data, there is better chance of an overestimate
than an underestimate for the month.
