Aramco Bypassing Houthi Threat with Yanbu Heavy Shipments to Europe

Saudi Aramco has ramped up the use of Red Sea terminals for heavy crude exports to Europe amid ongoing Houthi attacks on the Bab al-Mandab strait, according to MEES.

  • Arab heavy is typically only exported from Saudi’s gulf coast export facilities at Ras Tanura, where the larger storage and additional loading points make exports easier.
  • Yanbu and Muajiz are typically exporters of Arab Light and Arab Super Light grades. These come through the 5m b/d East-West pipeline.
  • Some Arab Heavy is delivered to Yanbu via pipeline but tends to supply refineries rather than export terminals.
