ARGENTINA: Economy Minister Caputo Says No Date Set For Removing FX Controls
ARGENTINA
- Speaking at the IDEA conference in Mar del Plata yesterday, Economy Minister Caputo said that there is no set date for Argentina to drop its current foreign exchange controls. His comments come after President Milei reiterated earlier this week that the government will move towards a flexible exchange rate after it lifts capital controls. Milei said that capital controls will be lifted once the monetary overhang is eliminated and the inflation rate converges with induced inflation.
- Today, governors from the Entre Rios, Chubut, Catamarca and Corrientes provinces are scheduled to speak at the IDEA event from 1545BST(1045ET).
- Data wise, the next release in the local calendar is September trade, due tomorrow, followed by August economic activity next week. Yesterday, latest fiscal data revealed that the primary budget surplus was ARS 816.4bn in September, down slightly from ARS 899.7bn in August.
