Argentina Finalizes LNG Tender for Fuel Imports in Winter: Bloomberg

  • Argentina’s gas importer Enarsa is finalizing its first tender this year to buy LNG ahead of the Southern Hemisphere winter.
  • At least six cargoes could be bid in a tender that could be issued within days and will cover demand starting in April, according to traders familiar with the matter. Further tenders may follow later.
  • Enarsa heavily relies on LNG spot cargoes throughout the bulk of its winter season, which typically lasts from late April to early September. The purchases can tighten the spot market at a time when competition seasonally rises to meet cooling demand in Asia and the Middle East, and to refill storage sites in Europe.
  • Argentina imported 1.5 million metric tons of LNG in 2024, the least since 2019. Demand has fluctuated in recent years and fell in 2024 due to the start of a major pipeline linking Vaca Muerta shale supplies to Buenos Aires.
