Argentina Injects Record Amount of Gas from Vaca Muerta

Argentina’s has injected record daily amounts of gas into the country’s pipeline system from the Vaca Muerta shale formation, according to Reuters.

  • The injections topped 100 mcm/d according to the Argentinian government.
  • The daily average over the last few days is 8 mcm more than the daily average for July, the energy secretariat said in a statement.
  • Vaca Muerta is thought to be the world’s second largest shale gas reserve and fourth largest shale oil reserve.
  • The first stage of a pipeline linking the shale formation to Buenos Aires was completed last month and has expanded capacity by 22 mcm/d.
