Argentina’s Gas Producers Look to Boost Exports to Brazil: Platts

NATGAS

Pan American Energy and Tecpetrol plan to increase Vaca Muerta gas production to export more supplies to Brazil and Chile in the near term as two pipeline projects widen sales potential from the shale play, Platts said.

  • "We are considering selling to Brazil by using all the midstream capacity available to reach those markets," Alejandro López Angriman, VP of reserves development at BP-backed Pan American Energy, cited by Platts.
  • He added that there is potential to make up for the decline in Bolivian gas exports to Brazil, which declined to 14 mcm/d from 25 mcm/d.
  • He estimates that Argentina can sell 5 mcm/d to Brazil in the short term from Vaca Muerta.
  • Neuquén province is producing 110 mcm/d of gas, 90% from Vaca Muerta.
  • Argentina’s domestic demand is around 140 mcm/d, while national production is surpassing 150 mcm/d in 2024, opening up export opportunities.
