Asian LNG Imports Rose 12% YoY in March on Lower Prices

LNG shipments to Asia last month rose by 12% on the year to 24mn tons, the highest level on record for any March, Kpler ship-tracking data showed, as lower prices boosted spot LNG appetite from price sensitive buyers.

  • Chinese LNG imports in March rose by 22% on the year, while Indian shipments surged by almost 30% last month. Japanese LNG imports increased by 8% on the year last month.
  • LNG shipments to Europe in March declined by 20% on the year to the lowest monthly level since September, Kpler data showed.
