ASML Outperformance Pauses In Wake Of Q2 Guidance

  • FD reports ASML plans expansion in Eindhoven rather than a move abroad after the gov’t commits EUR 2.5bn to local infrastructure/education. Not a spread mover though the decision to invest locally certainly removes some of the political pressure from the Dutch gov’t.
  • We wrote in early April about the strong performance of the ASML curve against €IG tech peers ahead of earnings despite already tight spreads against mixed news flow with the US seeking to disrupt the servicing of Chinese equipment while grants awarded to TSMC presented a headwind to ASML revenue.
  • Noting now that the outperformance against the peer group appears to have paused in the wake of ASML reporting Q2 guidance that disappointed (equity -11% since then). EUR 30bps +5bps on the week.
