Australia Q3 CPI +1.6% Q/Q; Trimmed Mean CPI +1.2% Y/Y

  • Australia Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.6% q/q in Q3, followed a record fall of 1.9% in the June 2020 quarter
  • CPI rose 0.7% y/y in the September quarter.
  • Trim mean CPI rose 0.4% q/q, or1.2% y/y in the September quarter.
  • Weighted median CPI up 0.3% q/q, or 1.3% y/y.
  • Child care was the most significant rise (contributing 0.9 percentage points to the headline CPI quarterly movement), following the end of free child care on 13 July.
  • Significant rises were also recorded in the September quarter for automotive fuel (9.4%) following a rebound in world oil prices, and pre-school and primary education (11.1%)
  • Other notable increases included furniture (6.4%), major appliances (5.3%) and small appliances (5.8%).
