Free AccessAxios-Fmr. NJ Gov. Christie To Announce GOP Presidential Run Next Week
Axios reportingthat former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is set to announce his intention to run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination next week. Axios: "Christie, 60, is a former close Trump ally who now calls the former president a "coward" and "puppet of Putin." He gives traditional Republicans a horse — but seems to have a narrow market in today's GOP. [...] Christie is expected to make the announcement at a town hall at Saint Anselm College at 6:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday."
- Data from Smarkets shows political bettors give Christie almost zero prospect of winning the Republican nomination, with a 0.7% implied probability of victory. He sits in 10th place behind former President Donald Trump (68.0%), Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (26.3%), former South Carolina Governor and US Representative to the UN Nikki Haley (3.5%), US Senator for South Carolina Tim Scott (2.5%), Virginia Governor Glenn Younkin (2.3%), former Vice President Mike Pence (1.5%), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (1.3%), former Fox News host Tucker Carlson (1.1%), and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy (0.8%).
