Babis Stays On As ANO Leader

  • The CNB's monthly report on Financial Market Inflation Expectations showed that "expected inflation decreased markedly over the one-year horizon, while remaining at the original level over the three-year horizon." The koruna exchange rate "is expected to be slightly stronger in mid-February this year and at the start of next year than on the closing date of this survey." The report came out on Friday but was overshadowed by the CNB's monetary policy decision, which provided a dovish surprise - see our review here.
  • The main opposition ANO party re-elected Andrej Babis as its leader, while the list of his deputies remained largely the same, with Robert Kralicek filling the seat vacated by Ivo Vondrak. Babis confirmed that he will lead ANO to the next parliamentary election as its candidate for Prime Minister. He refused to rule out cooperation with the right-wing SPD oarty, while describing the ruling ODS as his main rival.
  • Czechia's export prices fell 2.4% Y/Y in December (prev. -2.1%), while import prices dropped 6.2% Y/Y (prev. -5.7%).
