Baltic LNG Pipeline Work Ongoing Despite Partial Construction Pause

LNG

The German Federal Administrative Court has asked pipeline operator Gascade to suspend construction of an LNG link in the Baltic Sea, according to environmental group DUH.

  • A legal challenge to a pipeline connecting the planned Mukran LNG terminal on the island of Ruegen to the mainland was only partially hindering its completion according to Montel sources.
  • Gascade acknowledged a pause to the backfilling of a trench in the area. The suspension only affects part of the first underwater pipeline section, according to a Gascade spokesperson, as work on the rest of the link continues.
  • LNG terminal operator Deutsche ReGas still expects to start operations this winter according to a spokesperson. Local government earlier this week approved the request for a two-month extension until the end of February after the start of operations was previously planned by the end of last year.
