BanRep Event, Inflation Data To Be Released Over Weekend

  • Central bank Governor Leonardo Villar, co-director Olga Lucía Acosta and Finance Minister José Antonio Ocampo are all scheduled to speak today at a cultural event organized by the bank.
    • Over the weekend, DANE will publish January inflation data with the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecasting an acceleration to 13.30% Y/y, compared to 13.12% in Dec. For reference, the next central bank decision is not until March 31.
  • In local news, transportation Minister Guillermo Reyes said that if the Bogota mayor’s office doesn’t accept the proposed modifications by President Gustavo Petro to include an underground section for the subway currently being built in the capital, the government will stop the financing of other infrastructure projects in Bogota.     • Petro’s proposed modifications to the Bogota metro would cost the nation as much as 15 trillion pesos ($3.3 billion) extra, according to a government official.
