BanRep’s Villar To Speak At Seminar On Inflation Prospects

COLOMBIA
  • USDCOP continues to trade close to its lowest level since mid-2022, buoyed by the rise in oil prices to around their highest since last October. News yesterday that former President Uribe will face a trial over an alleged conspiracy to bribe jailed criminals had little impact. In a statement yesterday, the Attorney General’s office said that the former leader will be charged with bribing witnesses and undermining the course of justice. Uribe has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and claimed that he is the victim of political persecution.
  • Turning to today, BanRep Governor Villar will attend the virtual seminar with the Centre for Global Development at 1700BST(1200ET), alongside other central bank officials in the region. He is due to speak during a panel session on inflation and growth prospects.
  • Data wise, March consumer confidence figures will be published later. After that, the domestic calendar remains empty for the rest of this week, with focus turning to February IP and retail sales data and the next BanRep economists survey next week.
