Following on from earlier bullet on the election for the centre-right Les Republicains' presidential nominee (see 0946GMT bullet), betting markets are making former European Commissioner and party stalwart Michel Barnier favourite to emerge as the winner.

- It should be noted that the liquidity for this market is extremely low, making any bets have an outsized influence on the probability.
- However, it chimes with media and pundit expectations that despite Bertrand's stronger polling at the national level, Barnier could win through due to his long history of party loyalty. Bertrand ran for office under the banner of the miscellaneous right, rather than Les Republicains.
