BBG: Without NS II Europe Will Not Get Additional Gas

Bloomberg reporting that according to its sources close to Gazprom and the Kremlin, Russia is set to hold back on providing extra natural gas supplies to Europe until the EU has provided regulatory approval for the Nord Stream II gas pipeline.

  • European gov'ts remain in an extremely vulnerable position with winter approaching and domestic gas supplies unable to cope with the inevitable increase in demand once the temperature drops.
  • This would be a major escalation in the long-running unease in certain western capitals over NS II, with the story seemingly implying that Russia will overtly use the European energy crisis to achieve its geopolitical aims.
