BCCh Economist Survey, March Trade Surplus Widened to $2.906b

  • The latest central bank survey of economists will be published at 1330BST/0830ET. In the prior months’ release, 2023 year-end inflation expectations were at 5.2%, declining to 3.4% by 2024 year-end. Despite some initial strength for USDCLP on Monday following Friday’s US employment report, the pair edged back towards unchanged levels around 819.
  • On Monday, Chile’s central bank reported that the nation's trade surplus widened to 2.906b, more than economists expected in March, from +$1.999b in February.
    • Exports rose to $9.762b from $8.339b in February.
    • Copper exports rose to $4.585b from $3.449b in February, a 32.9% increase. Copper accounted for 47.0% of total exports in March.
    • Lithium Exports rose to $948m from $770m.
    • Imports rose to $6.855b from $6.340b.
    • International reserves rose to $39.275b from $39.078b.
