BCCh President on Inflation, Boric To Host Regional Leaders

CHILE
  • Central bank President Rosanna Costa has stated that August’s CPI data was a positive development, however, part of the downside surprise may be reversed in upcoming releases, according to an interview with Diario Financiero. Costa noted that inflation trends are subject to exchange rate fluctuations and other factors and that it is too early to adjust the bank’s forecasts.
  • Despite noting that the domestic economy is stabilising, Costa said that that the peso has weakened beyond levels considered in the central bank’s latest quarterly IPoM, which put the exchange rate between 850-860.
  • President Gabriel Boric will host the presidents of Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal and Uruguay, along with some former presidents and political representatives in Santiago to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Augusto Pinochet’s coup against Salvador Allende.
