BCCh Traders Survey Due At 1330BST

  • The Chilean peso outperformed yesterday, aided by a further 2%+ rally in copper prices. Overnight developments could moderately weigh on the peso at today’s open, underpinning the bullish USDCLP medium-term trend condition. Support to watch remains much lower at 935.63, the Mar 15 low.
  • Today, the central bank will publish its latest traders survey at 1330BST(0830ET), which will include market interest rate forecasts for the next MPC meeting. The recent economists survey showed that analysts expect a 50bp cut in May, following the 75bp move at the April 2 policy meeting. Looking ahead, just March PPI data will be published next week.
  • In other news, Mining Minister Williams suggested yesterday that the government will focus on upgrading the Hernan Videla Lira smelter, rather than build a new facility to reduce its dependence on Chinese plants. For now, the government is focused on a $1.4 billion project to expand the Hernan Videla Lira plant, Williams said.
