BCRP Chief Economist Armas Sees May GDP Rising By 5% y/y

  • Peru GDP is seen growing by 5% y/y in May, according to BCRP Chief Economist Adrian Armas, who is speaking at a conference. This would follow growth of 5.3% y/y in April. May economic activity data are due to be released on Monday.
  • Armas also says that the central bank sees the economy growing by 4% y/y in Q2. This would be an improvement on 1.4% y/y growth in Q1.
  • On inflation, he says that core inflation is high due to water bill adjustments, while transport and education costs are also pushing up core prices.
