OIL: Biden Administration Takes Steps to Protect Nevada Mountains

OIL

The Interior Department approved an application by the US Forest Service to withdraw 264,442 acres of federal lands in the Ruby Mountains from oil, gas or geothermal development for 20 years. The approval removes the lands from development for up to two years and initiates a 90-day period for public comment on the 20-year withdrawal proposal.

  • The proposal comes three weeks ahead of Donald Trump’s return to the presidency and he has promised to ramp up oil and gas production in contradiction to outgoing President Biden’s efforts to conserve public land. The lands would remain open to mining claims notwithstanding the energy prohibitions.
