MNI BRIEF: Mexico Inflation Up To 4.21%, More Rate Cuts Loom
Banxico set to continue cutting rates this year.
MNI (WASHINGTON) - Mexico's INPC annual inflation climbed to 4.21% in December, the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) said Thursday, in line with market expectations for 4.22% and down from 4.55% in November, reinforcing the prospect of additional rate cuts this year.
Core inflation registered at 3.65%, also largely in line with forecasts, up from 3.58% in November.
Banxico at its December meeting signaled it would quicken the pace of rate cuts as 2025 gets under way. (See MNI WATCH: Banxico Signals Larger Cuts Next Year) Minutes to that meeting due later Thursday should reveal additional insights into the internal breakdown of views among board members.
