Biden Calls For House To Pass USD95bn Nat Sec Supplemental

WHITE HOUSE

President Joe Biden has released a statement calling for the House of Representatives to approve the UD95bn National Security Supplemental passed by the Senate earlier today. Biden: "We cannot afford to wait any longer. The costs of inaction are rising every day, especially in Ukraine."

  • "There are those who say American leadership and our alliances and partnerships with countries around the world do not matter. They do. If we do not stand against tyrants who seek to conquer or carve up their neighbors’ territory, the consequences for America’s national security will be significant. Our allies and adversaries alike will take note."
  • Biden's statement makes a pointed reference to 'allies and adversaries' taking note of US actions, likely a follow up to former President Donald Trump's commentsat the weekend - suggesting that he would not defend 'delinquent' NATO allies if attacked, and indeed that he would encourage Russia to do so - that sent shockwaves through the alliance.
  • WH Press Sec Karine Jean-Pierre and WH National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby currently delivering a presser on the subject. Link to livestream here.
