Biden-'Hard To Tell If Putin Weakened By Recent Events'

Wires carrying comments from US President Joe Biden regarding the Wagner mutiny in Russia. States that it is hard to tell if Russian President Vladimir Putin has been weakened by recent events. Adds that Putin has 'become a paraiah around the world.' Biden was speaking to reporters as he boarded Marine One at the White House.

  • Speaking on 27 June, Biden stated that the US had no involvement in the incident, saying that NATO allies “[...] agree with me that we had to make sure we gave Putin no excuse ... to blame this on the West, to blame this on NATO. We made clear that we were not involved, that we had nothing to do with it. This was part of a struggle within the Russian system.”
  • By and large the US and its NATO partners have sought to portray the mutiny as a domestic issue in order to reinforce the above comments about the lack of Western involvement.
