Biden: 'MAGA GOP Will Put Medicare, Social Sec On Chopping Block'

WHITE HOUSE

President Joe Biden has delivered remarks on his 'solutions for inflation' at the White House. He repeats a number of favoured White House policy initiatives: Capping insulin prices, reining in oil companies, improving operations at ports, employing more truckers to improve logistics, promoting competition in meat processing, ending supply chain bottlenecks.

  • Biden says there are two causes of inflation. A 'once in a century pandemic' causing supply chain bottlenecks in sectors dependent on semiconductors, and 'Putin's war in Ukraine' which has raised energy and food prices.
  • Biden: 'We are trying to figure out a way to get Ukrainian grain out of the country and onto markets.'
  • Biden repeats the Fed's dual mandate - maximum employment and controlling inflation - Biden says he thinks inflation is the primary concern right now and he 'thinks the Fed agrees.'
  • Handling of the economy is by far the biggest drag of Biden's approval rating and Biden continues the Democrat strategic pivot of the past month to recast the Democrats as the party of lower taxation.
  • Biden highlights the 'ultra-MAGA' agenda of Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). He says they plan to 'raise taxes on working families' and put Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security 'on the chopping block.'
